Happy New Year!

Good bye to 2009 and hello to 2010!

Last year had a lot of challenges and changes for most of us. My wife and I were blessed with 2 precious baby girls. We moved our studio from the Avenues Mall to a shared space on Hendricks Avenue. Damon Photography went from having 4 staff people to just 1. And even with all the changes in our lives and our business, I can still say that I have the greatest job in the world!

It's been wonderful to hear about all the responses that the gifts of Damon Photography prints and albums have gotten from their recipients! I may even have to replace some album pages that got tears of joy on them from one future mother-in-law.

We've also seen a huge increase in our Seduction Photography sessions, in large part from military wives sending gifts to their husbands on deployment. Let's not forget during this holiday season about all the men and women serving our country at home and away that risk their lives for the freedoms that we all share. God bless them and their work and bring them all safely home to their families.

Happy New Year to all! And we look forward to capturing your life's precious moments in 2010!

Photo of a Photographer

Since I'm always behind the camera, I don't seem to have many pictures of myself, but this one was taken by a client's cell phone while I was doing three generations of her family at St Augustine beach for their Dad's 80th birthday.

They were an incredibly fun family to work with and came from all over to celebrate the big ocassion as a surpise! The best part for me was that the mother/grandmother had been a fan of my work from when I was in the Avenues Mall and their daughter secretly found out about me and booked me without them knowing it! I LOVE being a surprise present!

My girls are getting chunky!

I've found that my clients enjoy seeing how my girls are growing as much as my friends and family, so here's a shot from our recent 6 month session. It took 4 hours to get a handfull of decent shots with just me and my wife (and a tripod) working to wrangle both babies (who are a chubby 19 & 20 lbs now). I'm used to having me behind the camera and two parents wrangling one child. But I know how important it will be just as it is for my clients to have these moments captured!

In case you were wondering, it's Caidance on our right (as we look at the picture), and Chloe on the left.

3853 Hendricks Avenue

I realized that my last entry was in the middle of our transition into the Northlight Studio, but we're pretty much settled in now. There's still some behind the scenes stuff that Curt and I need to work on from a production standpoint, but it's been working for several weeks now with regards to meeting with clients.

We've been doing a lot with our specialties of Maternity, Families & Glamour lately! I had made the decision many years ago that I didn't want to be a photographer of everything, but rather I wanted to focus on the specialties that I had a passion for.

Maternity still remains my all time favorite thing to photograph and my progression series especially because I get to share the whole pregnancy with my clients! I get to feel like part of the family and share in the whole miracle of creation with them. And recently, I've shared some trying times with clients where the babies are struggling with various challenges. Those that know of my wife and I losing our son at 33 weeks of her pregnancy back in 2005, know how much I truly understand what a miracle the birth of a child is.

Thanks again for all my treasured clients that have been with me as my own life has changed now as a father of identical twin 5 month old girls, and the move to our new shared studio space! I look forward to more continued time capturing your life's miracles!

Moving challenges

Well, we're almost out of the Avenues Mall, and we're almost up and running in the new location, but not completely.

I was hoping to be able to hit the ground running once I transitioned over to share the Northlight Studio on Hendricks Avenue, but I definitely leaped before really looking. Curt Coenen of Northlight wasn't expecting me to move so quickly on his offer and he had several projects he wanted to complete in order to make the space ideal for us to share.

So now most of my things are stuffed in the studio and the things he's moving out to make room are slowly moving out, but it's not quite ready to be open for business. Not just yet. In the meantime, it'll give me much needed time to focus on catching up on retouching that being a new parent has backed me up on. I just got back online this morning so things are starting to become updated.

Thanks to everyone for your patience while Damon Photography and Northlight merge into one space. I'm looking forward to the dust settling and getting back to what I love most...photographing my clients' special moments!

We're moving the Studio! (we mean it this time)

I know I said we were moving out of the Avenues Mall last Christmas, and I didn't expect the Mall to make such a great offer for me to stay. And I was really planning on staying through the summer, but an opportunity came along that I couldn't pass up.

Most of you that are clients or read this Blog, know that my twin girls were born on February 23rd and (as all parents know) life will never be the same. I absolutely adore my little angels and it's hard going to work each day because I miss being with them. I knew that when my wife returned full time to her teaching job in the Fall that I wanted to move back into a residential studio, so I was planning on leaving the Mall studio anyway. I just hadn't found the right location in the Mandarin area to combine both living and studio space ideally.

I wanted to stay in the Mandarin area because of my wife's job and the client base I've built in this area (and St. Augustine), but a colleague of mine just south of San Marco (sorry St. Augustinians for the added drive) has offered to let me share his studio space. The Studio is at 3853 Hendricks Avenue and it will offer me several advantages.

Because it's already a running studio, it will minimize my down time as I transition to the new space. My friend Curt works by appointment, and so will I, so I'll be able to spend my days with my babies while my wife teaches and I'll meet clients after 4pm (when most of my Mall appointments are anyway). Also, Curt's and my specialties don't conflict because he doesn't do weddings or glamour, but works a lot with kids. So all my clients that have older children that want individual shots of them can use him. He does do some maternity and newborn, which everyone knows is my passion, but our styles are very different. And we both do families, but again the style difference will keep us from too much direct competition.

The phone number will be the same, although it may be forwarded for a while, and everything will stay updated on the website. I look forward to continuing to capture my clients' miracles in the new location, so stay tuned for further updates!
